18 Modern Coastal Bathroom Ideas
My latest design adventure is remodeling our powder room. With our home being close to the beach, we've decided to create a coastal theme for the house.
We lovingly call it our beach house. So, I'm always looking for good ideas to bring our coastal look to life. Most of our home has a white color scheme, so I try to add a decorative elements that bring our beach vibe to life.
There's something about a coastal room that always makes me feel comfortable and at home. I've found great inspiration for blue coastal bathrooms, super nice coastal powder rooms, and the best blue bathroom paint colors. Hint, we used Benjamin Moore Smoke – it's like bringing the calm of the coast right into your bathroom!
We decided to revamp our boring white bathroom (which gets no natural light by the way!) with some fun color to bring the small bathroom to life. While I'd love to work with an interior designer, that just wasn't in the budget. So I used Pinterest to bring my vision to life! I knew I wanted a modern bathroom with a coastal design. With it being such a small space, I'd need to be creative. Coastal to me is more of a beach theme. It isn't necessarily about nautical elements. It's more about natural materials and a color palette that is elevated.

Modern Coastal Bathroom Design Ideas
Step into a calming and stylish world with the wonderful charm of a modern coastal bathroom. Imagine a bathroom that feels like a fresh breeze from the beach, all while being trendy and modern. It's like having a mini vacation right at home!
Modern coastal bathrooms are a mix of easy-to-like things: clean lines that make the room look neat, soft blue and white colors that remind you of the beach, and little nautical touches that add a fun vibe. This design style makes your bathroom feel more than just a regular bathroom – it's a place to relax and enjoy some quiet time.
What I really like about this style is that it takes your bathroom and makes it special. The colors, like light blue and sandy beige, give you that relaxed feeling you get at the beach. Plus, things like rope decorations and marine-inspired decor (that means things that remind you of the sea) add a touch of classiness and playfulness.
And it's not complicated – simple lines, tidy spaces, and a relaxed atmosphere that feels like a day at the coast. Every detail is thought about, making the modern coastal bathroom a perfect mix of calmness and style.
But here's the really cool part – I've got a bunch of ideas for you to try in your own bathroom. From choosing colors that feel like the sea to adding nautical decor, we're about to go on a journey of bathroom design. Let's explore some awesome modern coastal bathroom ideas that will make you want to get creative in your own bathroom.
Best Blue Bathroom Paint Colors
When it comes to picking the right paint for a coastal-style vibe, exploring various shades of blue is a smart move. Blue paint is like the key to unlocking that calming coastal color you're looking for. Interior designers often say that blue is a great choice because it instantly brings a sense of relaxation, just like being by the water.
So, when you're on the hunt for that perfect blue paint, remember that you're not just picking a color – you're inviting a whole coastal atmosphere into your space.
Benjamin Moore Smoke: This light gray-blue is perfect for creating a serene and calming atmosphere in your bathroom.
Sherwin-Williams Rain: A soft and subtle blue that brings a refreshing and airy feel to your bathroom.
Farrow & Ball Borrowed Light: This pale blue adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to your bathroom space.
Behr Watery: A tranquil aqua-blue that invokes feelings of relaxation and a connection to the ocean.
Valspar Hazy Blue: This muted blue-gray shade provides a soothing and timeless backdrop for your bathroom.
Benjamin Moore Silver Lake: A versatile blue-gray that complements various decor styles and creates a serene ambiance.
Sherwin-Williams Sea Salt: A popular choice for coastal-themed spaces, this blue-green hue brings a sense of tranquility.
Farrow & Ball Skylight: This light and airy blue shade adds a delicate touch of color to your bathroom walls.
Behr Light French Gray: A blend of blue and gray, this paint color lends a touch of sophistication and modernity.
Valspar Summer Gray: A soft blue with gray undertones, reminiscent of clear skies and calming waves.
Julie Blanner also has some great blue paint colors here.
Our Coastal Powder Room Design
When I was looking at blue bathroom ideas with a coastal vibe, I instantly fell for beadboard in the bathroom. In fact, I put together a full Pinterest Board with ideas.
I knew we wouldn't have much room for coastal bathroom decor or playing much with the color scheme because it's a tight powder room. However, adding beadboard not only added a texture, but it added more color to the space. Beadboard or shiplap walls are perfect for a coastal-themed bathroom.

36” Vanity
We found this vanity on sale and over a year later, we still love it!
20” Gold Mirror
We needed a narrow mirror and this one was perfect over the vanity. It fit perfectly and is not too wide.
Gold Bathroom Faucet
We’ve redone multiple bathrooms and have installed this faucet every time. It is so beautiful and has minimal water spots!
Double Globe Sconce
I LOVE this light fixture. It sits perfectly over the mirror and casts an even light.
Black Towel Holder
Simple, but classic and balances well in our bathroom. Highly recommend!
Then, we knew we wanted pops of gold for a metal accent. We prefer gold to silver in our home. I found our light fixture at Pottery Barn and it seemed to complement the space perfectly.
Finding the mirror was the tougher challenge. The space above the sink was very limited and we luckily found this perfect mirror at Target. Because it is super heavy, we had to hang it with a special hook. For our white color, I actually referenced some of my Valspar favorites here, but ultimately we went with Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore.
I didn't include much in terms of beach bathroom decor since I did not want a nautical feel. The illustration of us is one of the key elements of design to add visual interest.
Smoke by Benjamin Moore
"Smoke" by Benjamin Moore is a cool shade that blends gray and a hint of soft blue. It's kind of like a mix between gray and beige, which makes it work well with lots of different styles. Imagine using "Smoke" in a bathroom you're designing. It's great for that coastal or modern look. It can make you think of misty ocean scenes and calm sea views. You can paint your walls with it or use it for cool details like trim. "Smoke" fits nicely with other design elements too.
The mix of gray and blue in "Smoke" is perfect for spaces that want to feel both modern and peaceful. It's a bit fancy but not too flashy. It's like a blank canvas that works well with different materials and textures. This color is a great tool for interior designers to make a bathroom look classy and calming. It's all about creating a space that's sophisticated and relaxed.
Other Coastal Beach Bathroom Ideas
When I was searching for coastal bathroom ideas, I created a board on Pinterest to save all of them.
Blue Herringbone Tile
I absolutely love the tile in this first photo. We weren’t doing any tile work, but I’m definitely saving this idea for when we redo our kid’s bathroom. Whether it's white tiles or blue tiles, I would use a gray or a white grout to bring it to life.
Another fun Herringbone Pattern via Ann Sacks. I’m personally more of a gold fixture designer instead of nickel, but I do really like this example.
Fun Tile Patterns
If you’re adding tile to your bathroom or powder room, I love this Laura Ashley print from Tile Outlet.
Non-Traditional Mirror Shapes
Initially I wanted a circular mirror, but we just didn’t have the space for it. I love this example from Abi Interiors.
Their Palm Springs bathroom is also dreamy! It’s certainly not a powder room, but it is one of the prettiest coastal bathrooms I’ve seen. The blue textured tile and rattan light fixtures are a definite favorite!
Rope mirrors would be another fun addition to create a coastal oasis.
I really love this felt ball mirror and have always wanted one! Maybe for Emmie’s big girl room some day? I love how we styled her nursery.
Benjamin Moore Woodlawn Blue is also a really beautiful color. It looks stunning in the happy housie post. You really can’t go wrong with shiplap when you’re designing a coastal space.
While I know it’s not a bathroom, I love the white wainscot from Lauren McBride Blog.
I considered wallpaper like this bathroom from My Design Chic, but ultimately decided it wasn’t in the budget. I’m always nervous to commit to a big print!
This beautiful blue paper from Kelly Nan has a beautiful look and feel. I love the palm leaves that look like more of a design element.
Neutral Coastal Powder Room
If you love a neutral look, but still want a coastal style, this mood board is perfect for you. Mindy Gayer has another great neutral example, too!
Neutral Textures
Mindy Gayer Design has another stunning coastal powder room design with a textured wallpaper and rattan light fixture.
Traditional Coastal Bathroom Ideas
While it’s not my personal style, if you’re looking for a masculine coastal style, this look and feel lends itself well.
Blue Cabinets for a Coastal Bathroom
Can Studio McGee do anything wrong? I don’t think so! I love this look and feel for a bathroom. It’s actually a color I’d love to explore for our kitchen, soon!
Coastal Bathroom Mood Boards
I found a few really beautiful mood boards that inspire a stunning coastal feel for a powder room or bathroom.
Another fun grand millennial coastal grandmother mood board from Grand Millennial Home Deals!
As I bring this journey of checking out modern coastal bathroom ideas to a close, I can't help but think about how much I adore our little beach home on the third coast. It's not just about the bathroom vibes – we're spreading this whole feeling throughout the entire house. Those beachy touches, the calming blues, and all those natural textures? They're not just for the bathroom, they're making the whole place feel like our magical little home.
