Do Pumpkin Spice Lattes Have Coffee?

Pumpkin Spice Lattes (PSLs) are synonymous with the fall season. This delicious drink has become a staple in coffee shops across the globe, especially during pumpkin spice season.

But many people wonder: do pumpkin spice lattes actually have coffee in them? Let’s take a closer look at this famous latte and explore its ingredients.

The Basics of a Pumpkin Spice Latte

A traditional pumpkin spice latte is an espresso-based beverage, typically made with a combination of shots of espresso, steamed milk, and pumpkin spice syrup.

The pumpkin spice syrup, which gives the drink its signature fall flavor, is a blend of warm spices like ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, often combined with a sweetener like brown sugar or maple syrup.

The Coffee Component

The primary coffee component in a pumpkin spice latte is the shots of espresso. An espresso machine is used to brew the espresso shots, which are then mixed with the pumpkin spice syrup and milk.

We have the Café Appliances Espresso Machine and love it.

For those who prefer a less intense coffee flavor, strongly-brewed coffee can be used as an alternative to espresso shots, although it won’t have the same bold taste.

Milk Options

The kind of milk used in a pumpkin spice latte can vary. Traditional versions often use whole milk, which gives the drink a rich and creamy texture.

However, there are many non-dairy milk options available for those with dietary preferences or lactose intolerance. Almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, and coconut milk are popular alternatives that can be used to create a delicious, non-dairy pumpkin spice latte.

I have had the best luck with whole milk and oat milk. Almond milk works alright but it’s rather thin.

Milk Frothing

To create the perfect pumpkin spice latte, a milk frother is often used to steam and froth the milk. This creates a smooth, velvety texture that enhances the overall experience of the drink. For those making a homemade version, heating the milk in a small saucepan over low heat can be an effective alternative.

Sweeteners and Flavorings

Pumpkin spice lattes are known for their sweet and spicy flavor profile. The pumpkin spice syrup is the star of the show, but additional sweeteners like vanilla syrup or maple syrup can be added to enhance the taste.

Some recipes also include actual pumpkin puree or pumpkin pie filling to give the drink a more authentic pumpkin flavor.

Torani syrups are always my go-to for flavorings.

Toppings

A traditional pumpkin spice latte is often topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.

These toppings add an extra layer of flavor and make the drink even more indulgent.

Variations

There are many variations of the classic pumpkin spice latte. The iced pumpkin spice latte is a popular choice for those who prefer a cold brew version of the drink.

For a healthier option, a healthy pumpkin spice latte can be made with less sweetener and non-dairy milk. The pumpkin cream cheese muffin is a perfect food item to pair with your PSL for a complete fall treat.

Caffeine Content

One common question is: how much caffeine is in a pumpkin spice latte? The caffeine content can vary depending on the number of espresso shots used.

A typical 12-ounce latte contains one to two shots of espresso, which can have anywhere from 64 to 150 milligrams of caffeine. For comparison, a cup of coffee contains about 95 milligrams of caffeine.

So, yes, pumpkin spice lattes do contain coffee. Whether you get your fix from Starbucks stores or make a homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe, it’s perfect for the fall season.

With so many variations and milk options, there’s a pumpkin spice latte out there for everyone. So, next time you’re craving that signature fall flavor, remember that your favorite PSL not only satisfies your pumpkin cravings but also gives you that much-needed caffeine boost.

I started dabbling more in the coffee world and decided to make a coffee mate pumpkin spice creamer dupe. I made a recipe for pumpkin spice coffee creamer that tastes like Starbucks, perfect for autumn! Did someone say pumpkin spice latte?

Since we bought our Café espresso machine, I've been playing with coffee creamers and pumpkin spice more often! Cold coffee drinks are my go to. I often love Starbucks coffee creamers, and even like the Starbucks pumpkin spice coffee creamer. However, I find making my own using pumpkin pie spice is cleaner.

Plus, it's fun to test new (and easy!) hobbies. Summer is cooling off, and I don't know about you, but I'm ready to jump into Fall! Snuggly sweaters and the crisp air always feels like a great change of pace.

All the...Fall things

Did anyone else catch the Blink182 reference?  I find that quarantine life has me so nostalgic!  Anyhow, once mid-August arrives, I start to mentally transition to fall.  Warm days are so welcomed, but the feeling of fall is truly the best.  Normally, I'm all about that pumpkin spice latte life.  This year is different.  Since we're home more often,

I've gravitated towards creating more experiences, recipes, and whatnot at home. It's actually been a great reset. So, I was super happy when I found out Torani needed help promoting the Torani Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Syrup.

As soon as I heard about the opportunity, I jumped at the chance to get involved. I mean, who doesn't love a good pumpkin spice latte, especially when it's sugar-free? It's like a guilt-free indulgence that still gives you all those cozy fall vibes.

So, I eagerly started brainstorming all the ways I could use the Torani Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Syrup to create delicious treats at home. From lattes to baked goods, the possibilities seemed endless. I couldn't wait to get started.

First things first, I decided to whip up a batch of pumpkin spice pancakes. I mixed the syrup into the batter, and let me tell you, the aroma that filled my kitchen was absolutely heavenly. As the pancakes cooked on the griddle, the sweet scent of pumpkin and spices wafted through the air, instantly putting me in a fall state of mind.

Once the pancakes were done, I drizzled some more of the Torani syrup on top, creating a beautiful swirl of golden goodness. With each bite, I could taste the perfect balance of pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It was like a warm hug for my taste buds.

Next on my list was a pumpkin spice latte, of course. I brewed a strong cup of coffee and added a generous splash of the Torani syrup. As I took my first sip, I was transported to a cozy coffee shop on a crisp autumn day. The rich, creamy flavor of the latte combined with the comforting spices was simply divine.

But my experimentation didn't stop there. I decided to try something a little more unconventional - pumpkin spice popcorn.

I popped a big bowl of popcorn and drizzled the syrup over it, giving it a sweet and spicy twist. The result was a snack that was both addictive and unique. It was the perfect treat for a movie night at home.

As I continued to explore the possibilities with the Torani Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Syrup, I realized that fall was more than just a season.

It was a feeling, a sense of warmth and comfort that could be recreated in the simplest of ways. And with this syrup, I had the power to bring that feeling into my own home.

Torani Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer Recipe

I love this recipe because it's a fun way to add as much or as little pumpkin flavor as you want to your coffee.

The recipe has the same flavors as a pumpkin pie with warm spices, rich vanilla notes, and, of course, pumpkin! Alrighty, so here it is:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups skim milk

  • 1/4c Torani Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Syrup

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1/8 tsp ground ginger

Instructions

1. Whisk ingredients in a pot to combine

2. Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes

3. Transfer to a jug to chill in the refrigerator. I stored my creamer in a mason jar.  The spices did tend to separate a bit in the refrigerator, but with a quick shake of the jar before pouring, you're good to go.  If you prefer a richer taste, you could always use whole milk.

Also, if you're dairy-free, you can always use unsweetened vanilla almond milk, too!  The recipe is super flexible. I hope you enjoy this pumpkin spice coffee creamer recipe as much as I do, and a big thanks to Torani for including me in the #FlavorFall campaign with Walmart!
